In the 1978 film Deerhunter, Robert De Niro portrays a hunter so self-assured, so skilled, and so respectful of his prey, that he espouses a one-shot philosophy. One shot. Just one. Because, he explains, “two is pussy.”

Be warned. If you’re in a nightclub and see a large man, who bears a striking resemblance to TV’s most famouse therapy-seeking mobster, wearing devil’s horns and surrounded by beautiful women, he’s liable to be a one-shot hunter himself. Because at his level, it’s only sporting if he limits himself to one-shot with the ladies. And more often then not, he gets his target.

Johnny Soporno lives in Toronto for half the year and divides the remainder between Amsterdam, Prague, Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami. He’s a professional management consultant, a lifestyle coach, superintendent of the notorious Satan’s School for Girls, co-producer of a late-night show covering the adult entertainment industry, and a crisis manager. He also provides a role model for aspiring social artists who abhor the gym.

“I have never been particularly ‘good looking’ and have generally been between marginally overweight and clearly obese since my teenage years,” Soporno says, “But I always found it was much easier to be attractive and interesting to women than it was to lose weight. If I hadn’t been as effective with women, I would have shed all my excess poundage two decades ago.”

However, Soporno now follows a healthier lifestyle because life is “way too good to let myself die young!”

He found himself launching a more active dating life when he was twenty. A jealous girlfriend objected to Soporno’s platonic relationships with female friends. “Since I had spent my life making friends with the coolest and finest people I had met, I wasn’t able to dismiss all my ‘Y-chromosome-deficient’friends simply because my live-in girlfriend said I had to,” Soporno recalls, “So I began sneaking around to spend social time with them behind her back. I realized that the cost of this, if I was caught, was losing my relationship-and that the cost of actually screwing around was no worse.”

Eventually, the unhealthy relationship ended and Soporno began the happy lifestyle he enjoys to this day. But despite having a naturally gregarious personality, Soporno still had to dedicate himself to becoming more socially successful.

“I’ve always truly loved and appreciated women, but this doesn’t mean I was always successful at actually seducing them,” he says, “That came with hard work, trial and error, braving rejections, modifying my approaches.”

He also underwent an intensive study program that included psychology, anthropology, socio-dynamics, transcendental meditation, neuro-linguistic programming, and other “state-management” techniques.

While Neil Strauss’s The Game, Eric Weber’s How to Pick Up Girls, and Iceberg Slim’s Pimp provided valuable instruction, Soporno’s transformation was also due to thick skin, determination, field work, and honest self-evaluation. He remembers “forcing myself to ignore all the ego-bruising of being blown off by a whole city’s worth of unapproachable beauties, and continually revisiting my mistakes… I eventually learned on my own how to make myself interesting and disarming, approachable and inviting, and ultimately pretty compelling.”

One of the ways Soporno makes himself interesting is through the use of his trademark devil’s horns. Bright-red, sizable, and proud, the devil’s horns are a study in effective peacocking strategies.

“They were cheaper than a hair transplant, and much less silly-looking,” Soporno laughs, “They are simply a fully-guaranteed conversation piece, but they require a certain savoir-faire attitude to carry off well. You have to be completely unabashed and uninhibited to walk the streets of major world cities and enter places of businesses, restaurants, friends’ homes, and the like, without even considering removing them.”

The devil’s horns tradition has spread to many of Soporno’s friends and colleagues, with each person wearing a different version, like Jedi and their individually crafted light sabers.

Soporno also stands out from the crowd with an extensive collection of loud Hawaiian shirts, anachronistic Western shirts, and outrageous T-shirts. “I learned about peacocking from reading Pimp by Iceberg Slim when I was a teen,” he recalls, “He explained that the reason the professional pimp wore such over-the-top outfits was to attract attention from the kind of women who’d be irresistibly drawn to a man who could carry such a costume off well… my horns are an encapsulation of this ideal.”

Soporno issues a warning to the legions of Dockers-Banana Republic-Levi’s-Abercrombie fans out there. “Unless you are startlingly good-looking, conforming to what is expected of you when presenting yourself is a prescription for being overlooked.”

But appearance alone does not generate the level of social success that Soporno enjoys. Men must constantly strive to improve their inner selves if they are to be successful and happy in dating and in life. “Work on liking yourself first,” Soporno explains, “Become a better person, someone who gains joy and pride from being able to, and willing to, help other people who deserve help. This will generate a palpable aura of happiness and self-satisfaction which is irresistible to most women.”

You could say that Soporno is definitely helping women (and men) with his instruction at Satan’s School for Girls, the pornstar training college. Offering advanced instruction in oral sex techniques, he can teach a woman to “deepthroat like a porn star in about two hours.”

The school also receives requests from females who want to learn how to orally please other women. “I have spent the last 18 years or so in constant pursuit of mastery of the various marital arts,” Soporno says, stressing the spelling difference in marital and martial. His skill was such that “girlfriends would call me up and ask me if I could teach their new boyfriends how to do the things to them which they so adored.”

In addition to these sexual tips, Soporno also offers tips on seduction and pick-up techniques. His relationship to the adult industry gives him a unique testing ground for seduction strategies. He notes that “peacocking works especially well on people who have already elected to live outside ‘polite society,’ and showmanship is certainly attention-getting.”

Negs are a topic often discussed in seduction circles, but Soporno says they have mixed results in the adult industry. On the one hand, “negs always work on women who derive their sense of self from the positive attention of others; narcissism is endemic amongst women who don’t like themselves but have hot looks,” he says. But on the other hand, successful pornstars who have amassed substantial fame and fortune tend to be immune to appearance-related negs. “If you neg a woman who is professionally beautiful on her clothes, her hair, or anything where she already knows she’s got everything under control, she’ll dismiss you casually.”

And Soporno is fiercely independent in his material, maintaining a repertoire of hundreds of personally crafted routines that he uses for a laugh, but “never to the exclusion of actually having an engaging and involving conversation!”

Finally, Johnny Soporno displays the sense of humor that is such a key component to his social skill arsenal. He may look like a murderous mob-affiliated tropical tourist marked by Beelzebub, and he may take his one-shot philosophy seriously, but he always knows how to get a laugh.

“The most important thing to remember when picking up women?” Soporno fields a question from a beginner, “Bend from your knees, and keep your back straight… Otherwise it hurts like hell the next morning.”
